Tonight was an easy dinner from start to finish. Five ingredient sticky sesame chicken. You may be able to spy my foil pan below making clean up a breeze too!
I started with boneless skinless chicken thighs which, in my opinion are the be-all and end-all of chicken. Way more flavor than the ho hum breast meat and super moist. I have yet to over cook a chicken thigh. And guys, I have been know to leave them in there a long time!
Just place them all in a foil pan lined with parchment paper. Parchment is your best kitchen friend. Nothing sticks it, not even thick brown sugar based sesame sauce. Definitely friends on with Parchment!
Cook up the sauce and pour it over top. Then bake these babies for 30-35 minutes. Or 50 – Still good!
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 3 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 12 boneless skinless chicken thighs
- sesame seeds for garnish
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
- Combine the soy, water, sesame oil and brown sugar in a sauce pan over medium heat.
- Turn the heat down and simmer while you get the chicken ready.
- Place the chicken in a foil container or a baking pan lined with parchment paper.
- Pour the sauce over the chicken and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds over the chicken before serving.

my sauce did not thicken. Any suggestions. Followed recipe to the letter.
Angie says
Hmm, not sure. However if you want a really thick sauce you can always add cornstarch. Just make a paste with water and add it to the sauce.
Donna says
if sauce is really runny then simmer on stove in the saucepan until it thickens then pour over the chicken. Or instead of soy sauce use kecup manis which is a thick sweet soy sauce. I also added some minced ginger and garlic to the sauce.

Good tips! Thanks 🙂
Sandi says
My sauce didn’t thicken either, even after boiling then simmering for almost 10 minutes AND adding cornstarch. But it tasted good!!

I made these and it’s yummy! It’s easy to make and smells good too. I didn’t have brown sugar so I replaced it with white sugar and it still tastes good! I will definitely make these again.
Angie says
Glad to hear it! Thanks for letting me know about the sugar so if I run out I won’t have to stop by the store again 🙂
Charnay says
Do you think thighs with bone and skin will still work out with this recipe?
Angie says
Definitely! It will probably be even better than boneless!
Charnay says
Change of plans what do you think of chicken legs with this recipe ?
Angie says
Chicken legs are a great idea! They’re something I wonder why I don’t buy more of.

I am making this for dinner tonight! YUM! Was wondering what you would pair with it as a side?
Angie says
We usually go with sautéed green beans and rice. What did you end up having?
Tom says
This is a wonderful and simple recipe. I made a lower carb version of this by replacing the sugar with a half teaspoon of stevia. It was heavenly. I will definitely be making this again. Thanks.2 people found this helpful.

Thanks for letting me know about the stevia. I was wondering how it would turn out and good for others wanting to cut back! Angie

I love this recipe and use it or a variation of it for all my chicken drumsticks. Using different types of vinegar, replacing the water with pineapple or apple juice (and reducing the sugar,) adding chopped ginger, cilantro, or sesame seeds has yielded delicious results. I always chop all sauce components and reduce the sauce down so I can use every drop of it with the chicken or to top accompanying rice, noodles, or vegetables.
Angie says
I want to try all those suggestions, especially the pineapple juice! Thanks for sharing!

This recipe was a hit with my whole family. I made extra sauce for pouring over rice. Served with all with steamed broccoli and carrots. Easy and quick to make too! Thanks for a great new addition to my arsenal! 😉
Angie says
Glad to hear it! 🙂
Chris says
Can I substitute for sesame oil?
Angie says
Sesame oil has such a distinct flavour, you can leave it out but it just won’t have such a toasted sesame taste.
